Little Boxes app gives incentives to shop local in Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. – Save your money during Black Friday because Small Business Saturday is just around the corner and local stores are offering some incentives for shoppers to pay them a visit.
Local retailers are teaming up for the Little Boxes Black Friday promotion that started in 2011. It’s gaining popularity with the local shops in Portland that depend on the holiday shopping rush.
Now, there’s an app to help you find local deals and enter to win prizes on top of finding those deals.
Dozens of stores across town are taking part with a wide range of prizes up for grabs. Shoppers earn raffle tickets by making purchases at local shops and by just visiting the stores.
“We give out a lot of codes, which is part of the whole thing. You get an entry code and you get a purchase code,” said Amber Castaldo, vice president of operations at Land Gallery.
Now in its eighth year, store owners say the concept and incentive behind Little Boxes is working.
“I see people on Little Boxes weekends that only come in on Little Boxes weekend. They come back every year, just that weekend. They might live in Southwest or other parts of town,” said Elisa Saphier, owner of Another Read Through.
It’s a unique annual event that provides a big boost during the most important time of the year for local businesses.
You can download the Little Boxes App for free in the Android and iTunes app stores.
