PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested a man accused of carjacking someone in the drive-thru of a Southeast Portland Burgerville on Tuesday.

The incident started shortly before noon when a man driving a pickup was at the Burgerville on Southeast 12th Avenue at Hawthorne Street when he says another man approached him, demanded his pickup, and threatened to hurt him with a bottle.

The suspect got into the green Ford Ranger and drove off. The driver was not hurt in the carjacking.

About 20 minutes later police received reports of a pickup blocking a driveway along Cesar Chavez Boulevard. They arrived to find the stolen Ford.

While officers were checking the area, they were flagged down by a witness who said they saw a man rob someone of their cell phone. The suspect’s description matched the one from the carjacking earlier.

Officers arrested the suspect several blocks away on Northeast Glisan Street. They haven’t been able to get his name, so he’s been booked into the Multnomah County Jail under the name “John Doe,” Portland Police said.

Police said they haven’t found the victim of the cell phone robbery.
