Man accused of hitting Marion Co. deputy head-on in deadly crash arrested in Mexico
The man accused of hitting a Marion County Sheriff's deputy head-on in a deadly crash 10 years ago has been arrested in Mexico.
Deputy Kelly Fredinburg was on his way to a call on Highway 99-E in June 2007 when he was hit head on by Alfredo De Jesus Ascencio. Deputy Fredinburg's car caught on fire, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 19-year-old man in Ascencio's car was killed as well.
Ascencio was indicted on two counts of criminally negligent homicide in August 2007, but he fled to Mexico.
An arrest warrant was issued in Mexico, and he was finally arrested in January 2017, but was mistakenly released one month later. He was again caught earlier this week.
