A man who sheriff’s deputies say was upset over child custody issues and broke into a home, only to flee when the resident shot at him, turned himself in Tuesday.

Louis Jarvis Jr. is being held on $50,000 bail in the Washington County Jail, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office got word of a disturbance at an apartment complex on SW Fischer Road around 2 a.m. Friday.

Deputies say Jarvis, 40, forced his way into the children's mother's apartment. Deputies say they found the front door damaged from being kicked in.

Investigators say the woman armed herself with a handgun to protect herself when Jarvis entered the apartment. At some point, investigators say she fired one shot in Jarvis's direction, causing him to flee the area.

Jarvis smashed out three of her car windows on his way out, according to deputies.

A warrant for burglary, criminal mischief and other charges was issued for Jarvis’ arrest.
