Marion County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a 40-year-old Salem man who is overdue from a hiking trip.

Deputies say Daniel Moung was dropped off Thursday afternoon at the Elk Horn trailhead. After hiking and spending the night in the forest, Moung was supposed to return to the trailhead. He didn’t.

Deputies say they believe he is in steep terrain and in an area that saw lightning and heavy winds overnight.

Deputies say they were called at 1 p.m. Friday. They say Moung is an experienced hiker and has supplies to last for 24 hours.

Deputies say they are concerned because Moung has a form of autism and diabetes, which needs to be medicated.

Moung is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a green tee shirt, kaki cargo pants, tan hiking boots and prescription glasses.

Anyone who may have seen him is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 503-588 5032.
