Suspects' mom arrested in rape-murder of Lewis Co. teen; girlfriend also now in jail
CHEHALIS, Wash. - The mother of two brothers charged with raping and murdering a 16-year-old Lewis County boy has been arrested in connection with the case, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the girlfriend of one of the brothers, according to officials and court documents.
Lewis County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer said the mother of suspects Jonathan Adamson, 21, and Benny Marquez, 16, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance in the killing of 16-year-old Ben Eastman of Randle.
Meyer said detectives believe the mother, identified by the Lewis County Sheriff's Office as Kindra Rose Adamson, 43, learned of Eastman's death shortly after it happened, on June 23 or 24, and delayed the law enforcement investigation into the murder while her sons fled the area.
Kindra Adamson made her first court appearance Wednesday afternoon, facing two counts of Rendering Criminal Assistance in the 1st Degree. The judge set bail at $100,000.
“I knew it was just a matter of time,” Eastman’s father, Benjamin Eastman, told KOMO News. “There is a little relief that she’s held accountable.”
In addition, an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Jonathan Adamson's girlfriend, Emma Brown, who also knew about the killing but withheld that information from investigators, according to court documents.
Brown allegedly told Adamson that she was upset about the killing, but still loved him, court documents say.
She was booked into the Lewis County Jail late Wednesday for investigation of rendering criminal assistance.
According to court documents, Jonathan Adamson and Marquez invited Eastman to go camping with them, then brutally beat, raped and murdered him. The brothers then buried his body in a shallow grave on their family's property, court documents say.
The court documents allege the brothers kicked and beat the boy. Adamson estimated Eastman was kicked 100 times.
Afterwards, the prosecution alleges the pair hit him some more with a large rock to ensure he was dead and then buried him, and burned his clothing. The court documents allege the brothers worried the gravesite would be discovered, removed the body and buried it elsewhere on the property.
The Lewis County coroner determined Eastman died from blunt force trauma and had extensive injuries to his head and torso.
Jonathan Adamson and Marquez were arrested after law enforcement officials tracked them down in Yakima County. They are now being held in jail on $10 million bail each.
Jonathan Adamson was arraigned Wednesday and plead not guilty to four charges; rape, murder, tampering with physical evidence, and unlawful disposal of remains. His next hearing is scheduled for October 11th.
Lewis County Sheriff Robert Snaza said the latest arrests might not be the last in the case.
“Our agency will continue to hold those involved in this horrific act responsible for their actions,” the sheriff said. “This includes anyone else who may be identified as part of this investigation in the future.”
