CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. – Mountain Wave Search and Rescue says four small slides were reported on Interstate 84 Saturday.

As of 3:22 p.m., Mountain Wave Search and Rescue said four slides occurred between milepost 25 and milepost 35.

So far, the slides aren’t affecting traffic.

"Heavy rain can trigger landslides," says Bill Burns, engineering geologist at the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries. "Be aware of the landslide hazard and avoid areas where landslides are possible."

The National Weather Service in Portland issued a flash flood warning for the Columbia River Gorge through Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

They say the recently-burned Eagle Creek Fire area will be more susceptible to landslides. Without vegetation, the rain can reach the soil easier and without roots, the soil is less-stable.

Burns said areas and buildings located below steep slopes in canyons and near the mouths of canyons may be at serious risk. The public should avoid these areas.
