More than $600,000 was raised over the past few months in a GoFundMe account called "Muslims unite for Portland heroes," which honored the three men who were attacked aboard a MAX train.

Saturday, that money was handed out to the families of Ricky Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, who lost their lives in the attack. Micah Fletcher, who survived the attack, also received a portion.

"It doesn't lessen the pain or the sadness, but it does shine a light on people's ability and the power that people have to take something that is awful and bring something beautiful," Vajra Alaya-Maitreya said.

The man accused in that attack, Jeremy Christian, was in court several weeks ago. A judge denied a news station's request to unseal additional documents.
