President Trump's decision to ask former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign, and install Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general, has sparked a nationwide protest.

The site Nobody is Above the Law--Mueller Protection Rapid Response is currently showing hundreds of planned protests across the country. Most of them are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. local time, regardless of where they take place.

Protests are also planned in Portland, Vancouver, and dozens of other cities around the Pacific Northwest.

In Portland, protesters may gather at Pioneer Courthouse Square, Waterfront Park, or both locations.

Also Thursday, the Portland City Council will consider an ordinance designed to prevent violence when different groups hold dueling protests in Portland. Even if that ordinance passes, it won't be implemented right away. There's also no sign Thursday's protests will feature groups with conflicting interests.

Organizers of Thursday's protests have this warning on their website: "Note: If you choose to attend an event, you agree to engage in nonviolent, peaceful action, to act lawfully, and to strive to deescalate any potential confrontations with those who may disagree with our values."
