Portland International Airport has drawn up a new policy around animals and air travel.

Trained service dogs are still allowed in at any time. Comfort animals, on the other hand, are allowed in if they're traveling with their owner or if they're being shipped by air.

And they must be kept in a travel carrier.

“This really is all aimed at helping keep the airport safe and sanitary,” said Steve Johnson, spokesman for the Port of Portland. “We witness a lot of things like dog fights and accidents in the airport, so that’s really what this aims at addressing.”
