PORTLAND, Ore. – The City of Portland is set to officially open Poet’s Beach along the Willamette River next week. This summer it will be staffed with lifeguards and will feature other attractions.

Poet’s Beach is a pilot project. It will be staffed with lifeguards seven days a week through Labor Day.

The beach will be located in South Waterfront Park, under the Marquam Bridge.

It will feature picnic tables and bathrooms. Life jackets will also be available.

The beach officially opens on July 12.

Poet’s Beach started as a project in 2014 in an effort to encourage Portlanders to swim in the Willamette River.
