Man injured in Northeast Portland shooting
PORTLAND, Ore. – A man was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon following a shooting in a neighborhood just blocks from the police precinct in Northeast Portland.
Reports came in just before 4 p.m. for a shooting at Northeast 10th Avenue and Killingsworth Street.
A witness told KATU News he heard at least ten shots, and saw someone being taken away in an ambulance. The same witness said he saw the man run onto Killingsworth near 11th Avenue and then fall to his knees. Neighbors helped the victim before he was taken to the hospital.
Heath McAllister says he saw a suspicious man park his car outside his home and start working on it. The man walked away and minutes later, McAllister heard six loud pops from around the corner.
"I heard him yelling and was running down the street here and running down Killingsworth Street and had clearly been shot in the leg," McAllister said.
McAllister said he was worried the man might have been armed. His neighbor from a few houses down his street told KATU News off camera that the man had yelled he had been shot, and had fallen to the ground with gunshots to his leg. The neighbor says he rendered first aid before officers arrived.
"I didn't see anybody chasing him. There was no car peeling out, not really sure what happened," said McAllister.
Police do not have a description of the shooting suspect or suspects.
