Photos appear to show Confederate memorial in Washington defaced overnight
A Confederate memorial north of Portland appears to have been defaced overnight by anonymous activists.
According to a post on Facebook, Anti-facists (or Antifa) defaced a sign and a monument at the Jefferson Davis Park off Interstate 5 in Ridgefield, Wash.
The group taped a banner that reads "SOLIDARITY: TAKE THEM ALL DOWN" over a sign that includes the Confederate Flag.
"Anti-fascists will not allow confederate monuments to remain in our communities. We stand in solidarity with Charlottesville and Heather Heyer and encourage all comrades to tear down any such monuments in their community," the group said.
KATU News reported on the memorial earlier this week.
Jefferson Davis Park is maintained by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Pacific Northwest Division.
It contains two markers for "Jefferson Davis Highway 99," which was part of an effort to designate a route in his name up to Canada with two markers in Washington state.
Confederate monuments are coming under heavy scrutiny this week after Heather Heyer was killed by a man who allegedly drove his car into a crowd protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
