PHOTOS: Shelter dogs, cats from Texas arrive in Oregon
Dozens of shelter dogs and cats from Texas arrived in Oregon Friday.
The animals were living in a San Antonio shelter when Hurricane Harvey touched down.
They, along with hundreds of others, are being relocated throughout the country for adoption to make room for pets whose owners were affected by Harvey.
They were flown to Oregon with the help of the group Wings of Rescue.
"A large number of people had to evacuate their homes in Texas very quickly, and many felt they had no choice but to leave their animals behind in their homes," Scott Beckstead, senor director of the Humane Society of the United States said.
The dogs brought to Oregon will be available for adoption after they get a health check. About 20 cats were dropped off for adoption in Washington later in the day.
