A woman was hit by a stray bullet while she slept early Thursday morning. It happened during a home invasion in a neighboring apartment.

Officers were called about 4 a.m. on reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Northeast 162nd Avenue.

A woman was shot in the leg, authorities said. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

"It terrifies me because I have a pregnant teenager in my home," said a woman who lives next door to the woman who was shot.

She says several bullets struck her unit, shattering her sliding glass door.

"We all hit the deck. I called 9-1-1," she said.

Initial reports state that a man went into an apartment and tried to shoot someone. The bullet went through a wall and into a neighbor’s apartment, hitting the woman.

"It was pop, pop, pop back to back, very loud," said another neighbor. "I could have sworn it was right in my living room; yeah, it was horrible."

The intended victim was not injured, officials said.

Police have not released information about the home invasion situation. No word on whether police are still looking for a suspect.
