OREGON CITY, Ore. – Police say the man who crashed into a gas station and was later hit and killed by a driver on Highway 213 early Monday morning was a 37-year-old Oregon City resident.

Investigators say John William Pundyk crashed his vehicle into the gas pumps of a Chevron Station near Clackamas River Drive at about 3:30 a.m. Monday.

A few moments later, police said, Pundyk got out of his vehicle and ran into the northbound lanes of the highway, where he was hit by a passing driver.

Clackamas Fire District 1 managed to put out a fire at the gas pumps.

Oregon City Police closed down the northbound lanes of the highway for several hours to conduct an investigation.

Officers are still looking into what caused the crash.
