Police ID robbery suspect shot, killed by SE Portland U-Haul employee

PORTLAND, Ore. – Investigators released the names of the robbery suspect who died after he was shot Wednesday night at a Southeast Portland U-Haul Storage facility.

Reports of a shooting came in just before 7 p.m. at the U-Haul on SE Powell Boulevard.

Initial reports state the suspect, identified Thursday as Robert Porter, 53, of Newberg, went into the U-Haul carrying a gun and demanded money.

An employee shot Porter during the robbery attempt, Portland Police said.

Porter was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Two other employees who witnessed the shooting are cooperating with the investigation.

At this point, no one is being charged with a crime.

Porter had been booked into the Oregon Department of Corrections for nine convictions, including burglary, robbery and rape.
