Police: Impaired driver crashed into officer while officer another driver pulled over
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland police say an impaired driver crashed into a motorcycle officer while the officer was performing a traffic stop on another driver Friday morning.
The Portland Police Bureau said the crash occurred around 1:15 a.m.
They say the officer was performing a traffic stop on a speeding driver on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Northeast Halsey street overpass, when a second speeding driver in a 2011 Volkswagen Golf struck the motorcycle officer from behind, knocking the officer to the ground and crashing the motorcycle.
The officer was injured and taken to a hospital for examination.
Police say the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and was not injured.
Officers determined the driver, 29-year-old Bradly Miguel Pitts, was impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. Pitts was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person and fourth-degree assault.
