PORTLAND, Ore. – No one was hurt when a man wielding an ax shattered a window at Portland Fire Station 19 on East Burnside Street Thursday afternoon.

Joseph Coffin, 30, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of criminal mischief II after the incident. Police believe he was under the influence at the time, but have not said what he might have been on.

The incident started about 2:30 p.m. when officers learned someone was breaking windows at the fire station with an ax. Officers arrived to find Coffin pacing outside the station.

Police said Coffin ran from officers, but he quickly gave up and was taken into custody. Authorities seized a knife and ax as evidence.
