Police: Motorcyclist killed in Linn County head-on collision

SWEET HOME, Ore. – A motorcyclist died after colliding head-on with a pickup truck on Highway 20 east of Sweet Home Tuesday afternoon, Oregon State Police said.

Oregon State Police troopers responded a report of a fatal motor vehicle crash on Highway 20 near milepost 34.5 at 2:05 p.m.

Investigators say Robert DeLong, 74, of Willamina was driving east on Highway 20 and rounding a right-hand curve when he crossed the center line and struck the front of a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, Kevin Schaffer, 27, of Santa Ana, Calif., was not injured, but DeLong was found dead at the scene of the crash.

Troopers said DeLong was wearing a helmet. His motorcycle came to rest in the westbound lanes.
