Police search for suspect who shot and killed employee at Kelso convenience store
KELSO, Wash. – Kelso police are searching for the person who shot and killed a convenience store employee during a robbery Tuesday morning.
Law enforcement identified the employee who was killed as Kelso resident Kayla Chapman.
According to the Kelso Police Department, the robbery occurred at Holt’s Quik Check, 400 Cowlitz Way, at 4:12 a.m. During the robbery, the suspect shot and killed the Chapman, who was the only employee in the store.
Investigators believe the suspect is a black or dark-skinned man. He was wearing a hat and bandana to cover his head and face.
The suspect vehicle is described as a newer white, four-door sedan. Police believe there were other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crime.

A friend of Chapman tells KATU News that she was "the nicest person I ever met, an animal and people lover, and so giving.”
According to officials, Chapman was a 2007 Kalama High School graduate, and has lived in the Kelso/Longview area ever since.
