Police searching for shooting suspect off West Burnside, woman shot in leg
A search is underway in Northwest Portland as police look for a shooting suspect.
The shooting was reported around 11:30 a.m. at Northwest 22nd Avenue and West Burnside. The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was shot in the leg and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweat pants, and red underwear.
Officers are searching the area of Northwest Irving to Burnside streets, from 21st Avenue to 24th Avenue.
Two witnesses told KATU News they saw the suspect and the woman from their car on West Burnside.
"We were parked right in front, in traffic, and we saw the girl standing out on the porch. The guy showed up, they turned around together and walked in. I immediately heard a pop," said Gretchen Newcomb.
Her daughter, Olivia Newcomb, was also in the car.
"We heard the gunshot, but didn't see the gun. He literally stood on the porch. We were stuck in traffic. He made eye contact with us and then just walked around the corner and took off down the street," Olivia Newcomb said.
The women told KATU News they pulled over and went into the apartment to check on the woman. Gretchen Newcomb said the woman's leg was hurt and said she was told the 19-year-old didn't know the suspected gunman.
