PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Thorns are being honored as the Grand Marshals for this year's Starlight Parade, honoring the team's 2017 NWSL Championship title.

They made the announcement at halftime during the Thorns’ match against Orlando on Saturday.

"It's because of strong and capable women that the Rose Festival has succeeded for more than 111 years," said Amy Johnson, chair of the PGE/SOLVE Starlight Parade. "It's only fitting that we take this opportunity to honor a group of strong women that have made the Portland sports scene so successful."

The Starlight Parade, set for June 2, is one of the highlights of the annual Rose Festival celebration.

It draws more than 300,000 spectators every year.
