Propane tank explodes, burning 1 person and destroying home at Dignity Village
PORTLAND, Ore. – Someone was taken to the hospital after a propane tank exploded Wednesday, destroying one of the tiny homes at Dignity Village in Northeast Portland.
Firefighters were called out about 11 a.m. on reports of an explosion at Dignity Village, a city-sanctioned homeless community on Northeast Sutherland Avenue. They arrived to find an 8-by-10 structure damaged, but no active fire.
Investigators said the cause of the explosion was a leaking propane tank which was being used inside the structure.
One person was taken to the hospital with burn injuries; no word on their current condition.
