PORTLAND, Ore. — A group of protesters gathered outside Mayor Ted Wheeler’s condo in the Pearl District on Friday night.
Some of the protesters chained themselves up inside the lobby. Others chanted, played music and danced in the street.
In a statement, Wheeler’s office said it is “monitoring the situation and hope protesters remain peaceful for the safety of other residents.”
The crowd appeared to thin around 11 p.m.
Protesters have taken to the streets of Portland for more than 90 days following the death of George Floyd in the custody of Minneapolis police near the end of May.
Police have declared many gatherings unlawful assemblies and riots; however, the last two nights in Portland have been peaceful.
