Radio voice of the Blazers takes leave of absence
A familiar voice won't be on the radio next week as the Portland Trail Blazers kick off their 2017 to 2018 season.
Radio play-by-play announcer Brian Wheeler is taking a personal leave of absence effective immediately and no timeline has been set for his return. This upcoming season marks his 20th with the team.
“Nothing pains me more than to be away from this Trail Blazers team and our amazing fans,” Wheeler said in a news release. “I’m appreciative of the organization’s belief in my talent as a broadcaster, and for their understanding of my need to manage these personal matters. I look forward to returning to the microphone very soon.”
Scott Lynn, who left Portland to move to Florida back in 2014, will fill in for "Wheels."
Jason Quick with NBC Sports is reporting Wheeler is dealing with scrotal lymphedema, which is the same condition that caused him to miss four games in 2013.
