Recent gang activity has NE Portland residents on edge
PORTLAND, Ore. – Some northeast Portland neighbors say they’re concerned about recent gang activity and violence on their street.
“I see that the kids aren’t safe to come out and I don’t blame them,” said Ken Griggs a concerned neighbor.
Within the last week, police have been to an apartment complex on northeast Prescott twice.
They were most recently there Saturday to arrest someone with a warrant. That turned into a standoff involving SWAT.
Police said the situation ended peacefully and they took two people into custody.
They said they were also at the apartment complex Wednesday for a report of gunfire. Neighbors said it’s not unusual to hear shots fired in the area.
“I can't walk in the daytime lately or even weed the yard. Gunshots the other day at 7 a.m. when I was out here,” said Darla, a concerned neighbor.
Portland police said its gang enforcement unit is still investigating what happened at the apartment Wednesday.
