The American Cancer Society held its biggest fundraiser of the year overnight Saturday – the Relay for Life.

For 24 hours, relay participants walked the track at Fowler Middle School in Tigard.

The group raised $77,000, which exceeded their goal of $66,000.

Cancer survivor Burt Waugh said he was overwhelmed by the support.

“Being a survivor, it certainly means a lot to me and a lot to people within the company and relatives and friends have had cancer,” said Waugh.

The group only stopped once during the 24 hour relay for the luminaria ceremony; a tribute to those who've lost the battle.

If you missed the event, you can still donate online until August 31.
