A Salem firefighter is fighting for his life in a Medford hospital and his friends are hoping you can help.

Mike Longmire was visiting his family over the weekend in Medford, when he suddenly fell ill.

His friends say he quickly got worse, and within a few hours, emergency room doctors had to put Mike on a ventilator, and into a medically-induced coma.

Mike is still in the hospital while doctors try to figure out what's wrong with him.

"Firefighting is huge to him," friend Jeremy Shearer said. "He is a servant through and through and he wants to get back to doing that. Knowing him, he is probably going nuts and probably just wants to wake up and get back to doing what he loves."

Shearer says Mike and his family have a long road ahead of them, so he set up a GoFundMe account to help family with expenses.

People have been responding quickly, as more than $8,000 of the $10,000 goal has been raised.
