A small salmon shark washed up on an Oregon beach Wednesday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the shark was found north of Newport by a person who first thought it was a great white shark.

Salmon sharks are fairly common throughout the North Pacific.

Biologists say it's common for juvenile salmon sharks to wash ashore, but they sometimes run out of energy and are unable to get back in the water.
