A Washington state man is missing after police say he fell out of a boat on the Snake River Tuesday night during a stormy evening in eastern Oregon.

The Baker County Sheriff's Office says the man launched from the Fox Creek shore in his row boat to assist a family member who was in a separate boat that had become disabled in the water.

"A strong wind and rain storm moved through the area, causing the disabled boat to drift to the shore a mile downriver from Fox Creek," deputies say.

The operator of the boat searched for the man and located his unoccupied row boat near the shore.

Police have been unable to find the man.

Deputies from Washington County in western Idaho are assisting in the search.
