At least 2 dead, multiple injured in NE 15th and Lombard crash
At least two people were killed and four people were injured in a crash Monday at Northeast 15th Avenue and Lombard Street, according to authorities.
Earlier, an officer at the scene told a KATU reporter that three people had died.
A dog was also reportedly in critical condition.
The injured people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, police said.
It was unclear how many vehicles were involved in the crash.
Neighbors said they heard a loud thud.
Gordon Marshall, a neighbor who lives a few doors away from the intersection, told KATU that he sees an accident at the intersection almost every other week.
"The 15th is a busy street, so I do believe there are a lot of people trying to turn left on Lombard," he said. "Lombard is a fast street."
Firefighters are asking that people avoid the area. Lombard is closed from 13th to 18th avenues and 15th is closed from Lombard to Buffalo.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
