ALBANY, Ore. - A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries when he hit a cable across a path in a neighbor's field while riding at night without a helmet, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said.

The family of Russell Leroy Davidson, 59, reported him missing at 1 a.m. Monday "when he did not return from taking a ride on his motorcycle," Sheriff Jim Yon said in a statement. "Davidson’s family reported he frequently rode his motorcycle in the area at night."

Deputies searched the area along Folsom Road, to no avail.

The sheriff said Davidson's adult son found him dead on a neighboring property just before 6 a.m.

"Davidson had hit a cable that was across a path in the middle of a neighboring field and suffered fatal injuries," according to Yon.

The sheriff said Davison was not wearing a helmet.
