Sheriff: Sex abuse suspect caught with alleged victim in Clatsop State Forest, info sought
HILLSBORO, Ore. – Deputies arrested a 37-year-old sex abuse suspect Friday night after finding him with the 13-year-old victim in a vehicle that had gotten stuck in the snow in the Clatsop State Forest.
Christopher Knox was booked into the Clatsop County Jail on attempted rape II and custodial interference I. He could face more charges.
Investigators say Knox called law enforcement late Friday night (Feb. 15) to help him with his snow-bound vehicle in the state forest near Knappa, Oregon. They located him with a 13-year-old girl, who he initially introduced as his daughter.
Deputies later learned that the girl was not related to Knox, that she left her home in King County, Washington without her parent’s consent, and that he had sexually abused her before bringing her to Oregon.
Officials said the girl was taken to a local hospital for an examination before she was reunited with her parents.
According to investigators, Knox met the girl’s mother online. Records show he was recently released from the Washington County Jail after being arrested by Forest Grove Police for carrying a concealed firearm and recklessly endangering another person.
Investigators said they believe Knox may have sexually abused the girl sometime after 3 p.m. Friday while stopped in a state park or rest area somewhere between Tacoma, Wash. and Astoria, Ore.
He was driving a black 2018 Dodge Journey with California license plates. The girl may have been seen outside the vehicle “wrapped in a blanket for warmth.”
