Shotgun fires while deputies investigate domestic disturbance in Hazel Dell

HAZEL DELL, Wash. – Deputies detained a Clark County couple Wednesday morning after a shotgun went off inside their car.

No one was hurt by the shotgun blast, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Witnesses called 9-1-1 after seeing a couple fighting near the Forest Creek Apartments on NE 16th Street in Hazel Dell. Emergency responders learned the man and woman involved were married but estranged, and that one of them had a weapon.

Bystanders told the Clark County Sheriff’s Office that the couple took off in a silver sedan. Deputies found the car parked in a nearby parking lot.

A shotgun went off while deputies were asking the couple to get out of the car, officials said. Investigators think the shotgun went off unintentionally.

The man and woman were detained during the investigation. The man was taken to the hospital with some minor, non-shotgun related injuries and the woman is still in custody. No word on whether ither will be charged for the incident.
