Snow causes cancellations, delays at PDX; slick roads close I-205 exit
PORTLAND, Ore. – Dozens of flights were delayed and cancelled out of the Portland International Airport on Saturday as the city’s east side was covered in a blanket of snow.
The delays and cancellations impacted flights to several destinations, so officials ask travelers to check their flight status before heading to PDX.
“We spend a lot of time and effort preparing for weather conditions like this to make sure we can safely operate,” said PDX spokesperson Kelley Bonsall.
The I-205 northbound exit to Airport Way was closed through most of the morning on Saturday, causing backups along the interstate.
People should consider taking TriMet buses or MAX to the airport as an alternative to driving.
Most of the cancelled flights were to Seattle, and the most impacted airline was Alaska Airlines.
Due to the weather, Alaska Airlines is allowing travelers flying to and from Seattle on Friday and Portland on Friday and Saturday to reroute or reschedule their flights for free.
