Authorities have taken into custody a suspect who they say drove recklessly and attempted a carjacking Tuesday, according to Oregon State Police.

Officers with the Rockaway Police Department responded to a complaint of a reckless driver going southbound on Highway 101 at about 1:25 p.m.

They found the vehicle and started to chase it, but they ended their pursuit because of the suspect’s reckless driving.

Officers with the Manzanita Police Department and deputies with the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office then spotted the suspect driving northbound on Highway 101, but they too stopped their pursuit of the suspect because of reckless driving.

OSP said the suspect drove east on Highway 26 and crashed into a ditch near milepost 9. The suspect then attempted to carjack a woman before he fled on foot into the woods.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies with a K-9 searched the area.

OSP said a suspect in the case was taken into custody Wednesday.

The name of the suspect was not released.

OSP is asking anyone who witnessed the reckless driving to call Sgt. Dee Rzewnicki at 971-673-4003.
