Texan man shot, killed in Portland motel parking lot identified; 3rd killing at property

The man shot and killed in a NE Portland motel parking lot on the last day of 2024 has been identified by authorities.

Malik-Devon Terrance Lee Henson, 28, of Texas, was named as the victim.

The Medical Examiner determined that Henson died from a homicide by gunshot wound.

On December 31, 2024, Portland Police officers responded to the shooting report at 5:41 p.m. in the 8200 block of NE Sandy Boulevard. Upon arrival, they found Henson dead in the parking lot of the Quality Inn.

The suspect or suspects had fled before police arrived, and no immediate arrests were made.

Notably, this was the third death in or around the motel in just over a month.

The Portland Police Bureau issued a statement that read in part: “Portland Police North Precinct is aware of significant public safety concerns at the Quality Inn. The North Precinct Neighborhood Response Team considers that location its top priority right now, and they are working there regularly."

The PPB also said that they are currently having teams gather data to start the process of designating the motel as a chronic nuisance property.
