PORTLAND, Ore. – Volunteers will help hundreds of local kids check items off their wish lists Wednesday.

It’s part of the Christmas for Kids event.

More than 200 kids will be paired with a volunteer and sent on a holiday shopping spree.

They’ll be able to pick out gifts for themselves and their siblings.

Members of the Christmas for Kids Foundation say this event is possible thanks to donations from the community.

“It’s easy to focus on what we don’t have, but to help these kids that are so grateful and so appreciative is the best way to start your holiday and really recognize what’s important,” said Melinda Lewis from the Christmas for Kids Foundation.

The Christmas for Kids event will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Hollywood West Fred Meyer.
