A nearly complete Habitat for Humanity home had a thief pull out freshly laid down sod from the front yard.

"It's never happened before," said Len Lelevich, the operations and construction manager for Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity.

Lelevich says on June 30 someone stole sod from a parked trailer outside the home that sits on the corner of Coweeman Lane and South 8th Avenue.

Volunteers were able to replace the stolen property and laid down the sod.

Then sometime last week a volunteer with the charity noticed a chunk of the front yard was missing.

"Someone came in and took another five rolls after it was installed." Lelevich said. "If you're going to steal sod, I would think you'll take the whole pallet."

Fortunately, Backyard Blitz in Kelso donated the extra sod and Lelevich put down more of the grass Tuesday afternoon. The home is nearly complete, and now with a finished yard, the family is set to move in soon.
