Thieves swipe bikes meant for needy kids

Some Grinches stole Christmas from needy kids.

It happened Tuesday morning at a semi-trailer parked behind the Walmart on 192nd and Mill Plain.

A local charity known as Waste Connections was using the trailer to store bikes and bike helmets that it donates to children around Clark County.

Of the 700 donated bikes, the thieves made off with 200 of them.

“All 700 had already been promised to a child here in Clark County, and the parents were very excited, looking forward to it. So, it’s pretty devastating, pretty hard for us to take,” said Cyndi Holloway, governmental and community affairs director for Waste Connections.

The timing for the charity couldn’t have been much worse.

The bikes were unassembled, and this weekend, there’s an event where volunteers put them together so they can be handed out before Christmas.

If you know anything about this crime, call Vancouver police.
