Troopers: 13-year-old dies in crash after driver misses stop sign along Hwy 99W

MONMOUTH, Ore. – A 13-year-old died Saturday in a crash along Highway 99W in Polk County, Oregon State Police said.

Initial reports state that 30-year-old Kayla Carter was heading east on Arlie Road in her white 2017 Toyota Camry when for some reason she did not stop at the stop sign at Highway 99W.

A northbound blue Subaru Legacy driven by 21-year-old Jessica Cornett crashed into the Camry.

Carter’s 13-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are still looking into what caused Carter to miss the stop sign.
