SALEM, Ore. – A mother and her four children died Sunday afternoon when a suspected drunk driver collided head-on with their car on Highway 99E just north of Salem.

The mother, Lizette Merano-Perez, 25, of Molalla, was heading into a corner when she crashed with an SUV driven by 27-year-old Favian Garcia.

On Tuesday, Oregon State Police identified Lizette’s four children as 8-year-old Ricardo Medrano-Contreras, 6-year-old Andrus Medrano-Contreras, 4-year-old Dayanara Medrano-Perez, and 2-year-old Angelina Vazquez-Crisp.

Lizette was Angelina’s aunt and temporary legal guardian. Officials say she was working to legally adopt the child.
