I-5 reopens after crews clean up sticky sealant spill near Des Moines
DES MOINES, Wash. - A truck carrying a load of sealant crashed on Interstate 5 Friday morning, spilling its contents over the freeway and snarling traffic for miles as crews worked to clean up the sticky mess.
All lanes of the freeway were reopened about three hours later.
State troopers initially responded to the scene, the northbound lanes of I-5 just north of 216th Street, at around 8:20 a.m. after receiving reports of a bad crash.
A large amount of sealant was found spilled across the freeway, blocking the two left lanes and the HOV lane at the scene.
Within minutes, a five-mile backup had formed.
There were no immediate reports of injuries in the crash.
