Vancouver police say man stabbed his mother repeatedly around her face and neck

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Vancouver Police Department found a woman unconscious in the living room of a home Friday afternoon after she had been stabbed several times around her face and neck.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance with a weapon at a home in the 13100 block of Southeast Angus Street at 4:54 p.m.

A man told dispatch that he had stabbed his mother.

When officers arrived, they detained the man who called 911, 28-year-old Brian C. Toombs.

Police say Sonya L. Toombs, 57, was in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Brian Toombs was arrested for first-degree attempted murder, domestic violence, and was booked in the Clark County Jail.

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Unit and Domestic Violence Unit are continuing the investigation.
