After years of planning, the new Vancouver Waterfront officially opens Saturday.

On Friday night, residents headed to the water for a sneak peek.

While not officially open, dozens of people spent their evening at the new waterfront taking in the view of the setting sun and the Columbia River, as boats raced across its surface.

While not everything is finished, two restaurants have already moved in.

Wildfin American Grill has been busy ever since opening Monday. It’s exactly what Regional Manager Karla Connelly said they have hoped for over the last two years.

“It’s been fantastic,” she said. “It’s been such a great reception from the community. Our guests have been so glad it’s been completed.”

She said she sees good things on the horizon.

“This has been more than we could have expected.

The opening for the Vancouver Waterfront is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The public is invited, and it will include a ribbon cutting, live entertainment and activities.
