Want to try one of the new e-scooters in Portland? Remember to wear a helmet
PORTLAND, Ore. – Electronic scooter share companies are rolling out service in Portland, and to help riders comply with the pilot program’s rules one company handed out free helmets Thursday.
The city announced the pilot program Wednesday afternoon, and companies were quick to take advantage of the opportunity.
Companies Bird and Skip were the first to receive permits. Bird said it jumped on the opportunity, having scooters available as soon as Thursday, while Skip said its scooters will be around the city as soon as next week.
Among the requirements for e-scooter use – riders must have helmets.
Bird held a helmet giveaway on Thursday to get Portlanders ready to hit the roads. They also educated people on how to properly use the scooters.
