Winter weather will be minimal during morning commute

Radar from March 6, 2019 shows winter weather is mostly south and east of the Portland Metro Area around 5 a.m. KATU image

PORTLAND, Ore. – Winter weather will hardly impact the commute Wednesday morning, KATU Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby said.

She said there could be freezing rain in some spots and only a dusting of snow will fall in a few areas. She said wintry precipitation likely won’t fall in the metro area until around 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. She said if drizzles begin in areas with temperatures below freezing, it could turn to freezing rain.

The moisture is moving up from California. Early Wednesday morning, it was still heading north from Southern Oregon.

Rhonda Shelby said so far, the precipitation has been mixed and very light south of Salem and now snow has accumulated anywhere. She said any winter weather we see will be short-lived because temperatures will be too warm for mixed precipitation after 10 a.m.

She said we can expect similar weather Thursday morning at elevations above 500 feet.
