The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said a woman returned to the scene of a crash a day after where they said she hit a bicyclist and then fled.

Deputies said Natalya Zakhariya struck Craig Spiezle on Tuesday morning while he was riding his bike off Highway 30 in Corbett. Spiezle is riding his bike from coast to coast. He suffered scrapes from the crash.

Deputies said Zakhariya returned to the scene of the crash Wednesday, but she crashed her vehicle into a tree. Responding deputies connected her to the crash with Spiezle and arrested her.

On Tuesday, Spiezle told KATU that the woman who hit him at first stayed on the scene and even helped clean off his wound. But then she demanded money upfront for the damage to her car.

Spiezle’s friends call 911, and the woman took off.

The sheriff’s office said Zakhariya was booked into jail and faces a charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver.
