A woman was killed Saturday night by a hit-and-run driver in Hillsboro, police officials said.

Officers were called out about 7:40 p.m. on reports of a crash at Northeast Cornell Road and Northeast 17th Avenue.

Police say a man and woman were walking west on Cornell Road when they were hit by a driver heading south on 17th Avenue in a white van.

Initial reports said the driver stopped at a stop sign and turned left onto Northeast Cornell Road while the pedestrians were crossing. The driver struck both pedestrians and did not stop; they were last seen driving east on Cornell Road.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the woman died on scene.

According to witnesses, the driver was in a white worker van with possible front end damage.

Northeast Cornell Road was closed for an investigation by the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team; the names of the pedestrians have not been released at this time.

Police are investigating what led up to the crash.

The van has a dark-colored graphic decal on its driver’s side. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the van or helpful information on the driver is asked to call Hillsboro Police at 503-629-0111.
